Before you install
Stay connected to WiFi
Install your eSIM at home or somewhere with dependable WiFi before you travel.
Don't interrupt the install
It usually takes a few minutes — don't exit or close settings during setup.
Give it a unique label
Name the new eSIM so it's easy to identify alongside your other SIMs.
Choose the eSIM for data
Once installed, select the eSIM for data. It connects when you reach the coverage area.

Choose your phone to see step-by-step install and connect instructions.
Install your eSIM
- 1Go to Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM > Use QR Code.
- 2Scan the QR code we emailed you from another device or a printout, then wait for the next step.
- 3Select Continue until the activation starts.
- 4Wait while the eSIM activates — don't exit the process, it may take a few minutes.
- 5Select Done when prompted, then set up your eSIM.
- 6Choose a label to tell the eSIM apart from your other SIMs.
- 7Select "Primary" as your default line.
- 8Select "Primary" to use with Apple ID, FaceTime and iMessage.
- 9Select your new eSIM for Cellular Data, then select Done.
You only need to complete one method — QR or manual, not both. Your QR code, SM-DP+ address and activation code are in your rioesim order email.
Connect to a network
- 1Go to Settings > Cellular and make sure your new eSIM line is turned on.
- 2Select the eSIM for Cellular Data.
- 3Turn on Data Roaming for the eSIM line (this is normal and required abroad).
- 4The APN is set automatically — you're ready once you're in the coverage area.
Your eSIM only connects once you're inside its coverage area. Networks are selected automatically.
